The Japanese word for "cat" is 猫（ねこ）[neh-koh] and the sound a cat makes is 「にゃあ」[nyaah], as opposed to "meow" in English. To say "kitten" one can say 「子猫」（こねこ）[koh-neh-koh] meaning child-cat or baby-cat, kitten. 黒猫（くろねこ）[koo-roh-neh-koh] is "black cat" and 愛猫（あいびょう）["eye"-byoh] is "beloved cat" or dearly loved and cherished pet cat.
